March 14 – Veto Day is on the 28th
The 2022 Legislative Session has ended but on March 28th, Governor Kristi Noem will make any final decisions on the bills passed by the Legislature during the session. Pertaining to cannabis policy, there are many bills which still await her final decision including SB 24 (the bill which caps home cultivation at two flowering and two non-flowering plants) and SB 26 (the bill revising the definition of practitioner for purposes of the medical cannabis program). Noem has three choices: veto the bills, sign the bills, or allow the bills to become law without her signature.

March 14 – Black Hills Cannabis Care staff share personal testimonies behind their work in the cannabis industry
Nevada Ellison, the chief operating manager at Black Hills Cannabis Care, Rapid City’s first cultivating company approved for a conditional use permit, and Jake Johnson, the company’s CEO, discuss why being involved in the cannabis industry means so much to them. By owning and running the cultivation company, Ellison and Johnson hope to meet the demand of the Black Hills area and bring aid to the South Dakotans who are suffering. Located in Deadwood, Black Hills Cannabis Care plans to also open dispensaries in Fort Pierre, Belle Fourche, and Rapid City.

March 15 – Genesis Farms LLC. is the first approved dispensary in Minnehaha County
Genesis Farms LLC became the first authorized dispensary in Minnehaha County following months of debate on safety regulations. Emmett Reistroffer, the COO of Genesis Farms LLC. (which is pursuing licenses in multiple locations in South Dakota) hopes to meet the expectations of the county by running a safe and secure business.

March 18 – Governor Noem announces she has signed multiple medical cannabis bills
Following the 2022 Legislative Session, Governor Noem announced on Friday that she has signed six of the over 16 cannabis-related bills that passed through the Legislature this year. March 28 is the last day for Gov. Noem to sign or veto any more of the bills passed during the legislative session.
