Campaign Update: October 4, 2020
There are just thirty days until Election Day and we’re in a real fight. Our opponents, No Way on Amendment A, are doing everything they can to defeat us. And now, they’re resorting to scare tactics and lies.
They are making misleading statements about youth use in Colorado, even though just last month the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, who conducted a survey of 100,000 students across the state, said “marijuana use among Colorado kids has not significantly changed since legalization.”
They are telling outright falsehoods about Amendment A to the people of South Dakota. They say Amendment A will allow public marijuana use and put dispensaries on main street even though the initiative specifically prohibits public smoking and gives cities and towns the authority to regulate the location of marijuana businesses. They’re using TV ads, digital ads, and mailers to spread their lies.
The good news -- we’re fighting back. We sent a mailer to tens of thousands of voters across the state. We’re running our own TV and digital ads that explain the benefits of A and 26. We have some great Facebook videos from our supporters (including popular travel writer and public TV host Rick Steves) that we’re sharing with voters across the state. We’re getting our message out through the media, making the case for legal access to medical marijuana and pushing back on our opponents’ false claims.
And on Wednesday, we organized an awesome day of action across the state!
We’re working very hard, and we’re still on a path to victory.
But in past campaigns in other states, anti-reform forces have spent big money in the final weeks before Election Day. So we can’t take anything for granted here in South Dakota.
